Avigilon HD Surveillance System Receives Top Marks in Independent Review by the National Sports Security Laboratory at the University of Southern Mississippi

Audit results will be announced at opening ceremony of the Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship at the University of Southern Mississippi

VANCOUVER, CANADA – March 4, 2010 – Avigilon, the performance and value leader in high definition (HD) and megapixel video surveillance systems, today announced the results of an independent review of the company’s HD surveillance solution performed by the National Sports Security Laboratory at the University of Southern Mississippi. The evaluation—conducted during a game-day event at the M.M. Roberts Stadium at the University of Southern Mississippi—assessed the usability, deployability, and maintainability of the Avigilon HD Surveillance System. The solution earned top marks, earning a Composite Base Score of 97.8 out of possible 100. The results of the audit will be announced at the opening ceremony of the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) lab within the Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship at the University of Southern Mississippi on March 5, 2010.

“We have been honored to participate in this comprehensive audit with the National Sports Security Laboratory for the purpose of advancing security practices at professional and collegiate sports venues across North America according to the NCS4 mandate,” said Dave Tynan, vice president of global sales and marketing at Avigilon. “The evaluation results not only validate the performance of the Avigilon HD Surveillance solution, but also contribute towards the development of security standards for stadium and arena owners with the ultimate goal to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for sports fans around the world.”

About the National Sports Security Laboratory Technical Reports
The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at the University of Southern Mississippi has established a National Laboratory dedicated to sports safety and security to assist spectator sports venue operators in assessing and validating systems and technologies for security use. The evaluation program is meant to assist end operators with objective and quantitative reviews of available commercial systems and solutions. Information provided by the NCS4 Lab will be shared nationally with the established community of interest through publication at the NCS4 web site as well as through distribution to the National Center Spectator Sports Safety and Security’s National Advisory Board, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and other Federal, state, and local agency interested in the evaluation results.

The primary goal of the National Sports Security Laboratory evaluation was to verify the Avigilon HD Surveillance System’s performance in the context of person screening and its ability to deliver video surveillance support for deterrence, detection, and forensic analysis. National Sports Security Laboratory also evaluated the Avigilon HD Surveillance System as a tool for crowd management both outside and inside the venue.

After a thorough review, National Sports Security Laboratory awarded the Avigilon HD Surveillance System a composite base score of 97.8 out of 100, indicating that the Avigilon HD Surveillance System substantially met its performance, functionality, and manageability claims to facilitate deployment and usability for security operators in a stadium environment. Furthermore, a composite max score of 101.4, predicated on several “exceeds” ratings in the usability and deployability categories, indicates a favorable review of features, ease-of-use, and ability to get the system up and running quickly and efficiently.

“NCS4 initiatives nurture a convergence of education, technology, and need in an effort to provide the best of breed for curriculum and commercial off-the-shelf security solutions, and is focused on understanding the mitigation of risk for stadiums and arenas,” said Dr. Lou Marciani, NCS4 director. “We are pleased to have the expertise of SAIC to conduct their audit of the Avigilon HD surveillance solution, and provide that as a service to our stakeholders.”
