Avigilon Named Founding Partner of University of Southern Mississippi National Center For Spectator Sports Safety and Security

Partnership demonstrates Avigilon’s commitment to enhancing security at sports venues around the world

VANCOUVER, BC, September 21, 2009 — Avigilon today announced that it has been named a founding partner of the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at the University of Southern Mississippi, a leading-edge academic organization dedicated to studying techniques to mitigate the security risks inherent with large spectator sport venues.

As a founding partner, Avigilon has made a three-year commitment to support the national center’s vision and mission. The focus of Avigilon’s support is contributing to the Center’s core competency that will benefit the professional development of the Center’s students, faculty, and programs. Avigilon will collaborate with the Center by providing training, research opportunities, technology, and scholarly investments in the program.

“We are pleased to support the Center’s efforts to provide sports security professionals with the specialized skills and solutions required to maintain a high level of security at sporting events around the world,” said Dave Tynan, vice-president of global sales and marketing at Avigilon. “High definition surveillance represents a major advancement in the tools available to effectively ensure spectator safety and security. We are honored to support the industry’s ongoing effort to enhance stadium and arena security.”

With a growing customer base including Wrigley Field in Chicago, Target Field—the new home of the Minnesota Twins, Canberra Stadium in Australia, and other high-profile stadiums and arenas worldwide, Avigilon has realized rapid acceptance as a technology leader in the sports venue market.

Established in 2006, NCS4 is the only sports security training organization of its kind in the United States and is a recognized leader in addressing potential threats and risks to the safety and security of sporting events. Through research, education, and innovative solutions, the Center continues to enhance the level of preparedness at sporting venues worldwide. With financial support from the U.S. and Mississippi Departments of Homeland Security, NCS4 works with advisory board members such as the NFL, NCAA, MLB, and the USA Olympic Committee to further increase sports security awareness.

“In collaboration with the industry’s leading security experts, the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security is driven to advance and demonstrate effective security management systems for sports venues,” said Dr. Lou Marciani, NCS4 director. “By partnering with Avigilon, our students and faculty will have access to cutting-edge technology and expert resources that will enable them to develop integrated security solutions to further enhance the security and safety of sporting events worldwide.”
