MOBOTIX solution improves security for 4-acre site with just 17 CCTV cameras

Eclipse (IP) Ltd delivers innovative 360-degree technology at Unit Pallets to meet security, health and safety requirements

UK – May 26th, 2010 – MOBOTIX AG, a leading manufacturer of digital high-resolution, network-based video security systems have released details of an installation of its MOBOTIX CCTV solution which is protecting a 4 acre site at Unit Pallets with just 17 cameras.

The solution, deployed by Eclipse (IP) Ltd, provides day and night coverage across pallet repair and distribution facility in Grangemouth near Falkirk. Unit Pallets Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of James Jones and Sons Limited, a major Scottish sawmilling company is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of timber pallets and produces up to 40,000 and repairs a further 100,000 pallets per week.

Unit Pallets Ltd recently developed a brown-field site in Grangemouth to focus on the repair side of its business. Although its main manufacturing facility in Golborne has had an analogue CCTV system for many years, senior management were unhappy with its performance and decided to look at a digital CCTV for implementation during the redevelopment of the new site.

“The old CCTV system offered poor quality and required a lot of cameras to be able to adequately cover our manufacturing and loading bays at our main site, “ explains Mark Murphy, Technical Manager for Unit Pallets Ltd, “The Grangemouth site gave us an opportunity to create a better CCTV solution from the ground up.”

Following a tender to three local firms, Unit Pallets selected Eclipse (IP) Ltd based on the strength of its product knowledge and a strong demonstration using MOBOTIX hemispheric cameras which required only 4 cameras’ to cover the entire 2000 Sq/f repair workshop.

“The quality of the recorded images is fantastic, the ability to zoom into any area of the 360 degree view   assists us with any health and safety and production issues over a two week period. The Mobotix viewing software is easy to use and can be accessed from any of our networked pc’s, explains Murphy, “While the installation carried out by Eclipse (IP) Ltd was quick and professional.”

The MOBOTIX installation uses a mix of Hemispheric and dual day and night lens cameras for the perimeter and main vehicle gates. The system is tied into the alarm and allows the firm’s remote monitoring company to quickly inspect the site via a simple broadband link in the event of alarm activation. The firm is also considering implementing number plate recognition technology with the MOBOTIX cameras to help track the 200+ vehicles that use the facility.

“The project has been a success and when we eventually replace our ageing CCTV system at our main site in Golborne, the MOBOTIX solution will be our likely upgrade path.” Murphy concludes.
