Pelco Honors and Celebrates Our Fallen Heroes at September 11th Observance
Clovis, CA (September 11, 2009) – Earlier today, hundreds of Pelco employees, honored guests and the public joined together in commemoration of the Eighth Anniversary of September 11, 2001, and to celebrate the lives of the fallen heroes from that day.
“Pelco is proud to be able to partner with local law enforcement and emergency services personnel to recognize and commemorate those who sacrificed so much on this tragic day,” says Julie DeBenedetto. “This ceremony has become an opportunity for everyone to come together and recognize the many heroic sacrifices that were made on this day eight years ago.
The solemn and respectful ceremony, which began at 8:30 a.m., was held at the California Memorial—a permanent monument in memory of all the victims and fallen heroes of September 11, 2001. The ceremony included a wreath procession with motor escort accompanied by a piped rendition of “Amazing Grace.” A twenty-one-gun salute, Combined Command “Fly Over,” folding and presentation of an American flag, and singing of the National Anthem followed.
Honored guests who attended the ceremony included: Chief Anthony Whitaker from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department, and Andy Isolano, former FDNY firefighter. Both are survivors of September 11, 2001. Other honored guests included the Combined Command Military Honor Guard and numerous first responders from the local area.
Chief Whitaker and Isolano led the flag detail in presenting the flag to the family of Lieutenant Commander Otis Vincent Tolbert of the United States Navy. A Lemoore native, Commander Tolbert was killed when the plane struck the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Commander Tolbert was a former college football running back who wrote intelligence briefings for the chief of naval operations. He is survived by his wife Shari and three children.
Pelco honors the brave men and women who sacrificed so much in 2001 with an annual September 11th Observance. Throughout the year, the California Memorial and the California Memorial Museum are open to the public to honor those who were lost and those who survived the attacks on the East Coast.
