Veracity USA Brings COLDSTORE to ASIS International

In Dallas, Texas, last month, Veracity USA successfully presented to ASIS 2010 visitors the latest in a long line of Veracity innovations : COLDSTORE.

In partnership with Instek Digital (whose VMS system is the first to fully integrate with COLDSTORE), Veracity demonstrated the key technical innovations of the system, including the Linear Array of Idle Disks, disk-level Sequential Filing System and the unique mirrored-overlapping pair disk writing pattern.

COLDSTORE is a Network Attached Storage (NAS) array that has been designed from the ground up specifically for video surveillance storage, developed using a back-to-basics approach.

Whilst simple in concept, this delivers a highly reliable storage system even when using the lowest cost hard disks available.  Our Linear Array of Idle Disks (L.A.I.D.™) technology combined with a unique Sequential disk Filing System (SFS™) produces a powerfully simple system, which can provide massive capacity at low cost.  COLDSTORE uses only one-tenth of the power of comparable systems, is resilient to disk failure, requires no disk rebuild process and dramatically reduces running costs.  It provides an easy way to instantly extract and transport critical evidential video data.

Disks are used sequentially, with all disks not in use being switched off, saving power and thus dramatically reducing temperature, vibration and wear – the three primary disk killers.  The system uses a unique mirrored overlapping-pair writing pattern to provide full data redundancy during the critical writing process, but not requiring twice the number of drives of fully-mirrored RAID1 systems.

COLDSTORE exploits the fact that on average, only 3% of video data is ever replayed, and so every disk is off (on average) for 87% of the time. SFS™ controls the disk read/write heads, moving them sequentially across the disk very much like a vinyl record player, virtually removing disk vibration. Combining LAID™,  SFS™ and the special writing pattern, together with a custom-designed low-power main CPU board, results in a disk array which hardly needs any cooling at all, and uses as little as 50 watts even with a fully populated 30TB array.

COLDSTORE was on full display in the Samsung booth as well as the Veracity booth; if you missed it in either location please contact us for additional information and a potential live demo.

Veracity Transmission Products Continue to lead the field

Veracity’s line of IP transmission products – which have been solving IP integration problems worldwide for almost 5 years now – are the well established leaders in an increasingly significant and important area of the security market : IP video integration.

Reseller partners such as Arecont Vision and Avigilon, as well as recommending partners such as Axis, IQ Invision, Samsung, and many others, have long relied on the Veracity product line to allow them to address segments of the market which would otherwise be inaccessible, such as legacy coax cabling, long network cable runs and many other installations with IP-specific issues which can be solved by one or more Veracity innovations.

While the world of Ethernet over coax as well as Ethernet extension devices has become a little more competitive than when Veracity brought the first devices to the market, products such as HIGHWIRE and OUTREACH Max continue to lead the field.

ADT, a market leader in domestic as well as commercial security, presented for the second year running, HIGHWIRE and HIGHWIRE Quad in a prominent booth location to allow current and future ADT customers to see how existing coaxial video cable is in fact the opposite of an impediment to the installation of IP cameras and IP technology. Both HIGHWIRE Quad and HIGHWIRE were running IP camera systems within the ADT booth and could be seen behind a specially designed display.

Ethernet over coax has long been a field in which Veracity has been the pioneer and always with an eye towards the future.  Whilst some competitive devices have appeared, none have the powerful combination of features and simplicity which make HIGHWIRE hard to match, still less surpass :

• Completely transparent Ethernet connections, with no IP address settings
• Cleverly designed high-speed serial data signaling for coax cables
• No dip switches or set-up parameters
• Easy and secure power connections, with a very wide range of low voltage input
• Proper device protection on power connection/disconnection
• Very low power consumption
• Compact size with range of wall and rack-mount options
• POE compatible options
• Low cost per pair
• An even more cost-effective four-channel per cable option
• Full CE and FCC certification

While some companies have offered Ethernet & POE extension devices that are restricted to the well-defined IEEE 802.af and 802.at standards, Veracity’s OUTREACH Max has been designed to allow the installer maximum flexibility for higher power applications, whilst maintaining full compatibility with the IEEE standards and offering Veracity’s long-life high-reliability operation as standard.

OUTREACH Max can forward up to 60 watts of power, whereas the lower cost OUTREACH Lite allows the extension of LAN only.   In the event that longer reach is required, OUTREACH Lite can be used in conjunction with OUTREACH Max.

While there may be installations where low-cost, high-risk devices may be used, the vast majority of installations all but demand devices that are field-tested and have stood the tests of time and multiple installations- HIGHWIRE, OUTREACH, and others.

It is unsurprising that Arecont Vision (among others) has chosen to standardize on Veracity’s PINPOINT local focus adapter, and companies such as Checkpoint and ADT have begun extensive use of Veracity’s battery powered POE injector, POINTSOURCE. With a verifiable history of solid, reliable products and a company with an excellent reputation for service, support, and product innovation, why would anyone choose a product from another company?

Where can I see COLDSTORE, TIMENET, HIGHWIRE, OUTREACH and others?

Veracity will be exhibiting at the ISC Solutions (formerly ISC East) with Arecont Vision and Instek Digital, in early November. All three companies are proud co-sponsors of the opening reception and would be pleased to see you and your colleagues in attendance.

Veracity will also be exhibiting in conjunction with Instek Digital and Samsung at Global Gaming, in mid-November.  While the Global Gaming show has a small (but significant) security section, our shared booth will be easy to find, as we are within hailing distance of one of our top partners, Axis Communications. The gaming industry is slowly but surely moving from analog to digital surveillance, and with that will come higher resolution cameras, making storage ever more significant. With that said, it is imperative that surveillance managers see an alternative to RAID 5/6 systems, and Veracity aims demonstrate and verify the concrete benefits of COLDSTORE over such older technologies, including significant cost-savings.

At both shows, attendees will be able to see COLDSTORE in full use (Instek’s MatriVideo system will be managing Arecont cameras, all recorded by Veracity’s COLDSTORE), HIGHWIRE, TIMENET, OUTREACH, and have access to all Veracity products.

Veracity USA Sales Growth creates further recruitment as well as a move to a new office

Product innovation coupled with strong sales has proven to be a route to strong growth for Veracity in the USA. Veracity, now the acknowledged leader in connectivity and transmission solutions for IP Video and an innovator in surveillance storage, has added two more sales and logistics staff and moved its US headquarters to Glen Rock, New Jersey.  This is a direct result of a significant growth in sales throughout North America during 2010.  The new, larger, offices are within easy reach of all three East Coast airportsand New York itself.

Veracity’s growth in the US has come from expansion of its IP Transmissions product range.  OUTREACH QUAD, TIMENET GPS, PINPOINT and POINTSOURCE are all recent additions to the range and adding to the growth in the US this year.  Veracity’s revolutionary energy efficient surveillance storage solution COLDSTORE is also showing early promise on both sides of the Atlantic.

The new office location is : 65 Harristown Road, Suite 207, Glen Rock, NJ 07452 USA - 800-679-1590 - www.veracityglobal.com
