Nobina chooses Axis cameras for CCTV monitoring in buses

One of the largest Nordic transport companies has selected cameras from Axis Communications' M31 series range for use on its buses in Stockholm.

More than 400 Nobina buses have been fitted with a total of 4,100 AXIS M3113-R Network Cameras in the first installation phase.

The AXIS M3113-R Network Camera is specifically designed for mobile video surveillance in transport including buses, trains and emergency vehicles. The camera, which is designed for quick and easy installation, has protection against dust and water, and can withstand tough conditions such as vibrations, shocks, bumps and temperature fluctuations. The active tampering alarm also detects tampering attempts such as blocking or spray-painting.

The images from the AXIS M3113-R Network Cameras will be monitored by the police image analysis group at Stockholm Public Transport (SL). The group had very strict specifications of the type of camera they needed with particular reference to ease of installation and image quality.

Axis Communications is Nobina's primary supplier of CCTV cameras. Speaking about the AXIS M3113-R Network Camera, Sverker Björling, service delivery manager at Nobina, said: "Access to and the ability to search the images in digital format as well as the high image quality have made the work of the Stockholm police with regards to image analysis much more efficient."

The AXIS M3113-R supports Super VGA transmission at full frame rate and is especially adapted to react quickly to changes in light levels. The model is provided with progressive scan, which produces sharper images of moving objects. A pixel counter helps check that the number of pixels of an object or a face meet legal requirements according to the customer's specific needs.

The desired field of view and a balanced image are easily achieved with the AXIS M3113-R Network Camera using the enclosed lens tool to control and rotate the globe that encloses the lens and the image sensor. The camera requires just one cable for both power and video, which further simplifies installation.

Phil Doyle, regional director, Northern Europe at Axis Communications, said: "The AXIS M3113-R is ideal for public transport installations like this one as it is both discreet and robust and it offers unrivalled image quality which is needed if staff and passengers are to be kept safe."

Axis cameras improve passenger security and safety and have previously been successfully installed in several demanding environments including buses in Prague and Madrid, trains in Sydney and Zürich and the metro in Moscow and Stockholm.

Axis Communications is the global market leader in the network video market. The network camera market is set to have a CAGR of 27 per cent per year over the next five years. The world market for video surveillance products is forecast to be worth more than $14,474 million by 2014 according to industry analyst house IMS Research (http://www.imsresearch.com) in its latest market report entitled 'The World Market for CCTV and Video Surveillance Equipment 2009 Edition' published in August 2009.
