CCTV Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Andy McCready as Business Development Manager. Andy joins our expert security sales team, working in an internal and field sales capacity. Andy is responsible for increasing awareness of the services and products we offer.

Mark Thomas, Sales and Marketing Director at CCTV Center commented, "'Andy brings an infectious energy and enthusiasm to his role. Andy has extensive experience in selling IP-based products, having worked in IT sales for over 10 years. He started his sales career selling financial information, before moving into IT. CCTV Center and FLIR Systems deliver successful thermal imaging seminar to security consultants and integrators

CCTV Center joined forces with FLIR Systems to host a "Thermal Imaging Explained" seminar. Attendees included key security consultants and a range of leading national, multi-national and independent security integrators. A short presentation was followed by extensive, hands-on product demonstrations. The focus of the seminar was where, when and how to use thermal imaging as part of a network-based security application. Thermal imaging technology is widely recognised as a hugely effective perimeter and early intruder detection tool. However, the additional benefits of using thermal imaging became apparent. These included its use in 24/7 surveillance, not just at night-time; impressive distance detection in excess of 1000m; glare and contrast immunity with thermal cameras being impervious to dazzle; no CCTV lighting being required to produce images, reducing lighting, product and power consumption costs; and lastly excellent Health and Safety management, detecting people in smoke-filled environments and total darkness where CCTV is ineffective.IP CCTV - it's not about the equipment price, it's about the total cost of ownership

Calculating the "Total Cost of Ownership" (TCO) of an IP CCTV system highlights its true worth. Despite a slightly greater capital outlay on cameras, compared to an analogue equivalent, an IP CCTV system will more than pay back the difference thereafter. We asked Carl Hayesmore, Technical Manager, to explain TCO and why CCTV installers should look beyond just the equipment price. It is probably true to say that for small, stand alone CCTV systems, analogue CCTV solutions have the lowest equipment costs. However, for medium and large CCTV applications, there is very little difference. IP CCTV system design is different to analogue, making direct comparisons very difficult. Indeed installers modelling network CCTV applications on analogue systems are probably not taking full advantage of the potential cost savings, and certainly missing out on the added functionality available.CCTV equipment costs are simple to quantify, from PTZ cameras, fixed cameras, dome cameras, NVRs, DVRs, Ethernet switches and matrices through to Ethernet and structured cabling. TCO considers the time and costs saved in set-up, support, on-going maintenance, service and operation, most of which can be measured as 'man hours' saved. IP CCTV enables quicker and often simpler cabling, intuitive set-up, easier commissioning, the opportunity for off-site maintenance and remote equipment set-up - all reducing man hours and subsequently the TCO.

Panasonic high sensitivity, WV-CF334 / CF364 day/night, analogue, fixed dome cameras with 1/3" CCD (PAL only)

The latest Day/Night, fixed, dome cameras from Panasonic offer an impressive 540 TV lines of resolution, generating crisp, clear images. Day / night options include "simple day/night" (WV-CF334) which, in black and white mode, has a low light resolution of 0.4 lux and "true day/night" (WV-CF364) which has a low light resolution of 0.05 lux. Day/night performance is enhanced using Adaptive Black Stretch (ABS), increasing visibility in dark areas of an image, without degrading image quality in brighter areas. Adjustment features, including Back Light Compensation (BLC), Auto Tracking White Balance (ATW) and Automatic Light Control (ALC) come as standard. The domes have 2.8 ~ 10 mm 3.6x Vari-focal Auto Iris lenses. ATW and AWC white balance modes are selected using a dip switch.
