Mirasys Spotter Mobile goes Android

Mirasys Extends Spotter Mobile Application to Android Platform and Provides Sneak Preview Into “Turning Your Mobile Device Into a Surveillance Camera” Functionality

London, UK – 12th May, 2011 – Mirasys Ltd, a provider of open platform digital CCTV and video surveillance solutions, today announced the availability of Mirasys Spotter Mobile for the Android platform. Previously available on iOS via the iPhone or iPad, Android users with a Mirasys video management system (VMS) can now remotely access surveillance images on mobile devices running the Android platform.  Android shipments have led the smart phone market for the second quarter running with a market share of 35%, according to the analyst firm Canalys[1], and the availability of Mirasys Spotter Mobile on this platform will therefore extend the ability for business users to access both real-time and recorded CCTV footage on-the-go from any location.

Mirasys Spotter Mobile for Android addresses key challenges of traditional local surveillance monitoring. Authorised personnel can use the Mirasys Spotter Mobile application on their Android devices when roaming on-site, or from remote locations. This improves business efficiency by allowing CCTV operators a more flexible method of working. The extension of the Mirasys Spotter Mobile application family to include Android capability provides businesses with an intuitive, mobile and efficient way to carry out their work on a greater range of devices than ever before.

The Mirasys Spotter Mobile for Android takes advantage of the touch screen user interface of a wide range of Android mobile devices and provides access to real-time and recorded video from Mirasys recorders. The Mirasys Spotter Mobile for Android also enables efficient and fast alerting procedures in case of incidents, enabling users to quickly extract still images which can be quickly sent via email for forensic investigations away from the central VMS console.

Mirasys will showcase Spotter Mobile for Android at IFSEC 2011, where a sneak preview into upcoming new functionalities for the Spotter platform will also be provided. One such development includes the transformation of standard mobile devices into surveillance cameras. Business users increasingly utilise standard shoot and record functions on personal and business devices, and by allowing these users to stream captured video footage from their mobile phone to Mirasys recorders over the mobile network, valuable image data can be captured to help first responders in forensic investigations. This highly mobile method of surveillance is intended to compliment more traditional stationary video surveillance, enabling business users to easily capture video images both onsite and when on the move to boost security.

Jukka Riivari, chief executive officer at Mirasys explained: “At Mirasys, we are constantly striving for new ways to diversify our product portfolio to make high quality surveillance accessible to end-users. With the proliferation of the use of smart phones in and outside of the office environment, Mirasys Spotter Mobile provides business workers with the tools they need to be confident enough to ‘lock up and leave’ premises, satisfied in the knowledge that they can access CCTV footage if an alarm was to be raised. The Android platform has become increasingly popular in the smart phone market, and now that Mirasys Spotter Mobile is compatible with both Android and iOS, we can now offer the application to a broader spectrum of clients than ever before, helping them manage their video surveillance and security systems wherever they are.”

Mirasys can be found at the IFSEC 2011 exhibition May 16-19. You will find us at Norbain stand D20 and at Samsung stand D130 in hall 5.
