French Ministry of Interior Pilot use of low Bandwidth Video

~ Vemotion Interactive selected for 6 month Pilot Project ~

North Yorkshire, UK – 3rd October 2011 – Vemotion Interactive, specialists in live video transmission over low bandwidth connections, today announced that they have been awarded the 6 month pilot project by the Service des technologies et des systèmes d'information de la sécurité intérieure^[1] named ST(SI)² for use of low bandwidth video for the French Police and Gendarmes.

Over the last year a contingent of the French Police and Gendarmerie has been evaluating Low Bandwidth Video solutions. The French Police have recently completed a national rollout of over 500 new generation ANPR vehicles equipped with 6 video cameras integrated in the light-bar for 360° coverage. The investigation was to identify a means to deploy a reliable and low cost solution to view live video from any of these cars and transmit the video to the ST(SI)² in Paris.

“The live video streaming from the vehicle to the Ops Room is being tested for operations management in public security. In moments of crises, the transmission of video in real time to the Ops centre gives a more precise view of the situation to the Operations Officer,” said Chef d'escadron Thierry Robin, a Senior Gendarmerie officer within the ST(SI)² and Head of Project.

A pilot will commence in Sept 2011 and Vemotion units installed in ANPR&video and other remote mobile units such as helicopters, CCTV vans, Rapid Deployment Units and local officers on the street using HTC mobile phones. Once equipped, the central control room in the ST(SI)² will be able to receive live video from any resource on demand.

The solution is fully integrated with command and control software in the ST(SI)², the back office systems for operational use by the police and Gendarmerie.
The pilot covers selected units across France and the solution being deployed will be demonstrated at this year’s  Milipol event http://www.milipol.com/

Following this 6 month pilot, the intention is to rollout the solution to a large number of remote assets including ANPR&video vehicles and remote operatives across the whole of France.
