How secure is your premises?

Manage your organisation’s security risks and keep ahead of criminals - new security management education at IFSEC International 2012

Understand and protect your business from ever evolving security risks by attending IFSEC International’s (www.ifsec.co.uk/preview) brand new education programme this May. Created for security managers and all those responsible for managing the security of their organisation, such as facilities, estate and building managers, as well as property owners themselves, the brand new Security Management Education Theatre will host a free-to-attend, CPD points-earning programme which takes place throughout the world’s largest annual security and fire event (14 – 17 May 2012, NEC Birmingham, UK).

Supporting industry research conducted by IFSEC International, which reveals that 94 percent of those responsible for managing their organisation’s security, believe it is important to stay up-to-date on the latest security knowledge at least every 6 to 12 months, the new education programme will provide technology updates, improved solutions to protect inside and outside threats, delivering ROI and personal development.

Highly regarded industry experts from Nottinghamshire Police, Wilson James, Morgans Hotel Group and CornerStone will also be joining the line up at what is tipped to be IFSEC International’s most impressive security management offering ever. Produced in association with TalAcq, the programme will feature a series of 30-45 minute presentations from key industry figures and security management professionals followed by Q&A sessions.

‘Dealing with the Insider Threat’, to be led by Martin Smith MBE, Chairman and Founder of the Security Company, will discuss the recognition and how to tackle the human aspects of security and fraud prevention. The former Royal Air Force Officer, who was mainly assigned to counter-espionage and counter-terrorism duties throughout East and West Europe, will address the issue that the Mark 1 human being remains the greatest and continuing weakness in the entire protective regime.

A significant part of security risk management is educating your employer and helping them understand the consequences of different security threats and the latest technological products and solutions that protect against this. With 68 percent of security managers citing either a board position or a direct reporting line into their company's board to influence security*, ‘The CSO and the Board’ will help security managers understanding how the CSO can interface with the Board and influence business decisions based on perceived risk and compliance. Other sessions to note for this area include Mike O'Neil, MD of Optimal Risk Management, who will cover ‘Procuring Security Services - Some thoughts on why and how to change’, whilst the directors of CornerStone will take a look at ‘How to ensure your Security Technology Investment delivers the result you expect’

Project ARGUS, the National Counter Terrorism Security Office initiative is another not to be missed educational session, which will explore ways to aid delegates in preventing, handling and recovering from a terrorist attack. The session will take attendees through a simulated terrorist attack to identify the measures to take for preventing, handling and recovering from a terrorist attack.

Nottinghamshire Police’s Assistant Chief Constable, Paul Broadbent, will lead a discussion alongside Mike Cherry, National Policy Chairman at the Federation of Small Businesses, on the pertinent subject of ‘Integration not Isolation - the public/private response to business crime’. Paul has extensive experience having served within the CID at every rank up to and including Detective Superintendent including leading Serious and Organised Crime,  Major Crime, and Gun Crime and has had responsibility for intelligence, undercover and covert policing. He has also led numerous high profile homicides, kidnap, terrorist and other serious crime enquiries.

‘Organisational Resilience’ will be tackled by Plan B Consulting who will cover the role of a business continuity manager and the questions you need to ask to focus on the most vulnerable security risks.

“Security professionals have a duty of care to provide solutions to manage risks in the workplace, however, if you don’t understand the potential risks to you and your business then how can you protect yourself?”, says Charlie Cracknell, Event Director for IFSEC International. “Not only does IFSEC International 2012 equip security managers with the latest need-to-know education and best practice, it also provides access to nearly 700 of the world’s leading solutions providers, enabling attendees to improve their knowledge of the latest innovations within the marketplace so they’re best informed to make correct procurement decisions.”

IFSEC International is the security management show, bringing together over 25,000 security professionals from over 100 countries across the entire buying chain; from manufacturers and distributors, to installers, integrators, consultants and those responsible for security management within their organisation.
