DUSTPROOF CAMERA HOUSINGS

If you mention dustproof camera housings to most people, they will immediately think of a unit being placed in an industrial or possibly manufacturing environment; but then simply protecting a CCTV camera from dust, isn’t the whole story.

In practice, more dustproof housings are used to protect cameras from inquisitive little fingers, than any overwhelming clouds of sooty particulates.

There’s always the potential for cameras to be easily disabled, particularly in sensitive public areas and dustproof camera housings can provide a simple yet inexpensive solution.

Designs will obviously vary from one manufacturer to another, but the bottom line is that they are all required to prevent dust particles from reaching the camera.

Most units are fabricated from bent sheet steel, and with a basic hinge or locking mechanism, perhaps using tamper resistant screws, offer a relatively low cost method for providing the first level of defence for any cameras installed within reach, indoors.

Doktor Jon is aware that this type of housing is not always easy to source, and indeed some models have been found to be far less protective than the manufacturer would have us believe.

In addition to dustproof housings, some (particularly domestic grade) cameras are already built to be dust resistant without the need for any additional enclosures.
