Allied Vision Technologies presents new Stingray models,
GigE cameras from Prosilica, and application demos from the marketing sector

Following its acquisition of Prosilica,  Allied Vision Technologies is presenting the entire FireWire and Gigabit-Ethernet camera line from both brands in one booth for the first time. Alongside new products in the areas of FireWire and GigE, spectacular demonstrations will again generate excitement ­ this time, paired with application examples from the world of marketing.

Stadtroda/Vancouver, October 2, 2008 ­ Allied Vision Technologies, a leading manufacturer of digital cameras for industrial machine vision, will present another spectacular stand at the VISION 2008 show in Stuttgart again this year. VISION is the largest trade show anywhere in the world for machine vision, and the size of the AVT booth has again increased in comparison to last year’s to 180 m· (1937 sq. ft.), demonstrating the company’s continued growth.  For the first time since its acquisition of Canadian camera manufacturer Prosilica, both brands will be presented at one booth.

Comprehensive Camera Selection with FireWire and Gigabit-Ethernet Interfaces

Visitors to the AVT booth can familiarize themselves with the new product line-up  represented by both of the leading brands: the popular red FireWire cameras from Allied Vision Technologies complemented by the equally recognizable blue GigE cameras from Prosilica. “We are very proud to present our company in this new dimension at VISION to the world of imaging,” explained Frank Grube, the company’s Managing Director. “At the show, we are showing two strong brands, each leading in its particular market segment: AVT for FireWire and Prosilica for GigE Vision“. According to Grube, thanks to this acquisition, AVT now offers the industry a complete product line for practically every application area.

At VISION 2008, two new AVT Stingray camera family models will make their debuts: the Stingray F-125 and F-504. The Stingray F-125 is equipped with the new high-sensitivity Sony CCD-Sensor ICX445 with 1.3 megapixel resolution, while the Stingray F-504, with 5 megapixel resolution and excellent image quality, supplements the upper end of the camera family. Both cameras are equipped with a fast IEEE 1394b interface. 

In the Gigabit Ethernet area, Prosilica will present two new versions of its well-known GE Series, the GE1050 and the GE1910. The GE1050 is a fast 1 Megapixel GigE camera running at up to 60 fps, while the GE1910 features the Kodak KAI-02150, a new generation progressive scan CCD sensor that brings High Definition to the industrial imaging market. The new GB camera series, an ultra-compact, credit card-sized camera with a GigE interface, will also be on display at the VISION show. Last but not least, Prosilica will unveil a new Gigabit-Ethernet camera family in Stuttgart.

Machine Vision done differently: demos of marketing applications

The digital machine vision market is growing due to a number of factors such as the development of new application areas that move beyond traditional industrial inspection — areas such as traffic monitoring, medicine and science, or sports and entertainment. Allied Vision Technologies had already demonstrated this trend at the 2007 VISION show with impressive interactive demos from the entertainment world. This year, AVT will present applications from one of these new growth segments: sales and marketing. 

In the area of market research, SMI (SensoMotoric Instruments GmbH) has developed eye tracking systems which can precisely track and analyze the path of a test subject’s gaze upon a particular object, such as an advertisement layout, a display window, a web site or a supermarket shelf.  At the AVT booth, VISION visitors can test the iView X RED System by SMI on themselves. With the aid of a Pike digital camera from Allied Vision Technologies, the system determines where on an advertisement the gaze falls, and what is overlooked — all of this with the highest level of precision.  With SMI’s EyeGame, visitors can experience the speed of AVT’s Pike camera’s reaction time for themselves in a fun and playful way — this video game is controlled exclusively by the eye movements of the players.

Additionally, the presentation of the Virtual Stage from Mobidium should prove to be a highlight of this year’s VISION. Mobidium, an innovative company from France, designs and markets interactive multimedia animations, initiated and driven by the viewer’s movement. At Virtual Stage, an image is projected onto the floor, and this image changes dynamically as people move over it. This technology is used for advertising purposes at marketing events, trade shows, exhibitions or in retail environments to convey advertising messages in an interactive and entertaining way. An individual’s presence and his or her movements are captured by a Guppy digital camera from Allied Vision Technologies. Here, too, visitors to the AVT booth can experience this new advertising medium live and in person.
