ASIS CPE credits to be awarded at IFSEC Conference

IFSEC Conference 2009, 11-13 May 2009 NEC Birmingham, UK

IFSEC has announced that ASIS Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits will be awarded to Certified Protection Professionals (CPP), Professional Certified Investigators (PCI) and Physical Security Professionals (PSP) that attend this year’s IFSEC Conference.

The high-level three-day Conference, which will take place from 11-13 May at the NEC Birmingham, will cover the most cutting-edge issues in the security industry today.

Having been ratified in January 2008, the CPE system is based on a standard of measure used worldwide to calculate continuing professional development for those in the security industry. One credit will be awarded for every hour-long seminar attended.

Each day of the IFSEC Conference 2009 will be dedicated to a specific area of security and will be chaired by an industry leading figure. More than 25 speakers will present over the three days including representatives from NaCTSO, SISBO, The Olympic Delivery Authority, IBM, McDonald’s, Deutsche Bank, Travelex, Home Office, Cabinet Office, PWC and the National Association for Healthcare Security.

Day 1 will look at Global, National and Local Protection and will focus on issues such as maintaining business resilience and continuity, the latest security intelligence and security strategies and planning procedures of Critical National Infrastructure. This day will be chaired by David Kidd, Regional Security Manager at the US Embassy.

Day 2 of the conference programme will concentrate on Corporate Security Management and will look at issues such as the threats of e-crime and online fraud, security managers overcoming increasing financial restritions to maintain a secure environment and the dynamics of employee security. This day will be overseen by Bill Wylie, Former Chairman of the Security Institute.

Finally, day 3 will explore Technological Innovations in Practice and will concentrate on various issues including the advantages of interoperability of security systems, the pitfalls and challenges associated with IP implementation and the future of security systems. Alex Carmichael, Technical and Membership Services Director of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA), will be chairing the final day.

James Blue, Director of Fire & Security at UBM Live, organisers of IFSEC, says: “Together with our fantastic line-up, security professionals will now have the opportunity gain internationally recognised career development certification by attending the informative sessions at this year’s IFSEC Conference. Having secured some of the industry’s leading names as speakers, the seminars will provide delegates with thought provoking content and unrivalled expertise. This is a conference not to be missed!”
