The University of Bedfordshire deploy Mobotix IP cameras The University of Bedfordshire wanted to record the progress of an extensive building project at its Luton Campus. The solution needed to be simple to install and operate so they chose a design from Lynx Networks based on a pair of Mobotix IP cameras. The cameras have Ethernet interfaces and deliver processed images to the University's servers via their LAN. From here, they publish refreshed images to their website. In addition, continuous video could be saved for security purposes. A major advantage of the Mobotix cameras is that they can still operate at -30 Celsius and are IP65 rated for excellent resistance to the strongest rain. They have no heaters or moving parts and, because they are powered over the Ethernet connection (PoE), they dont require a local power supply. Time-lapse photography, taken automatically over 18 months, will allow the University to show a film of the demolition and construction of the new Student Centre and Student accommodation. Anyone is able to see images the of construction in progress, updated every minute, by going to www.beds.ac.uk/aboutus/facts/phase1b John Wells of The University of Bedfordshire said, We have worked with Lynx Networks to provide the University's voice and data cabling infrastructure for many years. The University is investing £74m in redeveloping the Luton campus, including a new student centre and halls of residence. We wanted to communicate the progress of this project the staff and students. Webcams provide a highly effective way of doing this. Lynx's webcam offering has been implemented at very short notice and went very smoothly. Keith Swan was extremely helpful, especially in the adverse weather conditions we were experiencing at the time. We're very happy with the work and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lynx Networks to others requiring a similar service."
