ALBERT in the running for the 2009
Product Innovation Category in the PSI Premier Awards

VIDEOTEC announces that ALBERT, the new edge-device for analysing and selecting events in an area under video surveillance, has been nominated as finalist for the Product Innovation category in the PSI Premier Awards 2009. Online voting is now open at http://www.psimagazine.co.uk/premvote.htm to decide the eventual outcome of the awards, which are organised by Professional Security Installer Magazine.

Alessio Grotto, President of Videotec spa said “Videotec’s selling point has always been the research for technological advancement and the flexibility to respond to the demanding market needs. We are delighted that professional security installers have recognised ALBERT’s unique performance features. This rewards our great efforts and hard work to offer a forefront solution and solve many in-the-field problems of external cctv installations.”

ALBERT provides on-board analytics for advanced video detection and content analysis, using its intelligence to aid monitoring outdoor areas. Each Albert unit on a system broadcasts information about its activities to others, so that where an alarm occurs, neigthbouring devices can assist, moving to preset positions to protect high risk areas. Cooperation is indeed ALBERT’s unrivalled feature, where each unit, in an efficient teamwork, is able to exchange metadata with other connected ALBERT devices and share tasks for the optimal monitoring of a certain area. The cooperation makes possible to overcome the limitations of the typical “edge systems” technology, without the drawbacks of the “centralized systems” and offering the advantages of both.

When an anomalous event is detected, ALBERT warns both the operator and other connected ALBERT units. The operator can promptly intervene, while the units automatically re-organize their activities in order to make all nearby cameras to point the event and follow the event when it leaves the main view. Coordination actions are fully automatic. The Albert’s cooperation is possible thanks to the distributed algorithms of artificial intelligence, offering the advantage of an uncommonly easy set-up, simply based on preset positions, and the possibility to follow multiple simultaneous events.
