CCTV Industry 'News in Brief' - June 2006

It's been reported that the Oki Electric Industry Co. have successfully transmitted high definition video over commercial IP networks, using their H.264(1) Codec. Based on OkiMediaServer(2) technology, it is claimed that the image quality was equivalent to that of video delivered live without going through a network.

Milestone Systems, a leading player in the development of IP Video Surveillance software, have announced the release of their new XProtect Central v.3.1 as an add on product for XProtect Enterprise 5.6. It provides continuous monitoring of the operational status and triggered alarms, from various devices connected to the servers, and offers instant visual verification of any technical issues.

It's estimated that 70% of the worlds Digital Video recorder (DVR) production, is centred in Taiwan and Korea, according to a new report "CCTV Digital Video Recorders", published by Research and Markets. With mainland China identified as the fasting growing production base, total unit shipments from Asia are predicted to exceed 17 million units in 2006.

US based Salient Stills, a leading video image enhancement software specialist, have announced the launch of their latest VideoFOCUS 2.0 forensic image enhancement package. Developed for use by law enforcement, security, military and intelligence markets, the user friendly software is designed to allow operators to recover and process image streams from a range of formats, both digital and analogue, and export into .mov, .avi and .wmf formats for playback using either Quicktime or Windows Media Player.

It's sometimes remarked that a year in the CCTV industry can seem like a lifetime, but for one industry grandee, these are still exciting times. Yash Patel, the Executive Director for CCTV Europe is this month celebrating his 20th year with JVC Professional Europe. During a distinguished career, he has received several industry awards, including the Premier Award for Outstanding Achievement, and the prestigious Guild Member status with the Company of Security Professionals.

Bosch Security Systems used IFSEC 2006 as the venue to launch their new Dinion range of IP surveillance cameras. Both the Dinion IP and XF IP ranges offer flexible networkable devices providing alarm and event management, motion detection, and Power over Ethernet (PoE) connectivity. Bosch President Uwe Glock made a presentation at the event, highlighting the company's investment and commitment, to the successful future development of IP Video surveillance products.

Specialist CCTV equipment manufacturer Videotec, have reported an excellent IFSEC 2006 presence, with a significant increase in visitor numbers.
The latest version of the unique ULISSE remote control camera positioning system was launched, with twin Infra Red illuminators fitted as standard. The unit was chosen as a finalist contender for the event's "Best New CCTV Product" award, shortlisted from over a 1000 entries submitted for this category, from around the world.

As an enhanced anti fraud measure for IP Video system operators, Milestone Systems have announced the launch of their new XProtect Transact version 2.1 software. Aimed specifically at retailers and banks, the software is designed as a bolt on to the XProtect Enterprise, Professional or Basis+ video management platforms, to provide POS or ATM transaction data, combined with high quality video feeds as a unified visual auditing tool, to help identify any untoward transactions.

Bosch Security Systems have announced an in depth training package, to help staff get to grips with the latest IP network technology. To compliment the recent launch of the Dinion IP camera, all employees whether technical, sales or support will benefit from a detailed insight into the workings of the latest technology products. In recognising the significant growth in IP enabled systems, Bosch Security Systems UK Managing Director Jeremy Hockham commented " ... we feel that it is essential for everyone to be fully versed on IP, the related terminology and its capabilities".
