CCTV Industry 'News in Brief' - July 2006

Canadian specialist Infra Red camera manufacturer Extreme CCTV Inc, have recently announced the acquisition of UK based Forward Vision CCTV Ltd. Founded in 1998, Forward Vision are recognised for their development of compact fully functioning PTZ camera systems, notably the flagship Mic1-400, known affectionately in the industry as the 'Metal Mickey' camera. Revenues for the last financial year hit £ 3.3m, and the sale has been completed for a total consideration of approx. Can$ 10m.

News from IP software innovator DVTel, who have recently launched their new iSOC V5 intelligent Security Operations Centre. The V5 is designed as an open standards platform that combines all video, audio, data, access control and alarm management, along with video analytics functionality into a single command and control package. The iSOC product has already been adopted by East Midlands Airport, Havering College, The US Super Bowl and also chosen by LA County Sheriffs Department, for use in a wide range of applications.

New York based analytic software manufacturer Verint Systems, have announced the appointment of two new distributors for central Europe. SLE, an established specialist contractor for urban public transport networks, will hold exclusive rights for Verint's Mobile Video Security Solutions in France, whilst Dominion Technologies will fulfil a similar role in the Spanish market.

Vision Fire & Security have recently appointed Julius Klein Molekamp as their new Regional Sales Executive handling the ADPRO range of CCTV products. Based in the Netherlands, Julius has degree's in Electronics Design and Law, and along with his practical experience in sales, engineering and legal issues, will bring a unique combination of skills in support of customers throughout Continental Europe

Bosch Security Systems have once again been awarded the contract to provide CCTV video surveillance, at the unique Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. For the sixth consecutive year, the world famous folk and beer festival will benefit from round the clock surveillance, using 12 Bosch AutoDome cameras, linked to Dibos digital record systems equipped with 2.5 Terrabytes of storage capacity. During the two weeks of the event, around 6 million visitors are expected from around the world.

It's estimated that 70% of the worlds Digital Video recorder (DVR) production, is centred in Taiwan and Korea, according to a new report "CCTV Digital Video Recorders", published by Research and Markets. With mainland China identified as the fasting growing production base, total unit shipments from Asia are predicted to exceed 17 million units in 2006.
