CCTV / IP Video Industry 'News in Brief' - November 2007

 

French manufacturing group Schneider Electric, have announced completion of the acquisition of Clovis based CCTV manufacturer Pelco, with all shares bought for the grand sum of US$ 1,540 million. All future trading by the company will be reflected in Schneiders accounts as from 16th October 2007.

At the recent 15th Taiwan MOEA Industrial Technology Advancement Awards, IP Video camera manufacturer Vivotek, have been honoured with the "Excellent Enterprise Innovation Award".

The long awaited "National CCTV Strategy" document produced jointly by the Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB) and Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) has officially been launched this week -

Verint Systems Inc., have entered into an agreement with Motorola Inc., to allow their 'Nextiva' wireless devices to be used on the MOTOMESH broadband wireless networks. This will allow high bandwidth access to any cameras, even from vehicles on the move. As an extension to their existing range, Verint have also announced the launch of their new S2750e mini dome IP camera.
Meanwhile, Verint Systems UK office has announced three "Consultant Open Days" to be held at their Weybridge, Surrey Offices on the 1st, 15th and 22nd November 2007.


US based IP Video specialist LenSec have this week announced their involvement as a Corporate Partner of the national Safe City programme.Safe City is a community based initiative, combining the efforts of corporate supporters, law enforcement, local government, property and business leaders, all motivated towards the reduction of crime through technology, and the general protection of US cities.

The 'IP in Security Awards 2008' have been launched this week, with entries invited before the closing date of December 1st 2007. The winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner during IIPSEC week in January 2008 ...

Specialist video imaging equipment manufacturer Allied Vision Technologies (AVT) have announced their expansion into a new larger development centre in Ahrensburg, near Hamburg, Germany. They've also released information on their latest Stingray "Transformer" machine vision 'firewire' camera, which is being previewed at the Vision 2007 show , and is due for delivery Spring 2008.

Pelco have introduced the latest version of their WS 5000 Advanced System Software for the Endura IP Video Security System. Version 1.5 can be run on either a dedicated Endura workstation, or on a qualifying PC, providing an upgraded user interface, new icons and a number of new capabilities within the range of Endura applications. Plymouth City Centre is just the latest location in the U.K., to benefit from "Talking CCTV". Bosch Security Systems have supplied their horn speakers to be fitted in four areas of the city, with control room operators now able to verbally communicate with any individuals 'caught on camera'. Mike Atherton, the local Community Safety Manager is quoted as saying "We have the power to actively remind people that they are being watched. So if, for example, an operator sees someone throwing a piece of rubbish on the floor they will instruct them to pick it up which shames the person into picking it up and disposing of it properly". - more info. on this story

DVTel have recently completed the supply of their Latitude Network Video Management System (NVMS) to the Brisbane Metropolitan Transport Management Centre (BMTMC). As Australias largest local Authority, Brisbane City Council has combined their CCTV operations with both the highways agency and the public transport operator, to integrate over 400 cameras into a super control room, dependent on DVTel's management system to ensure a flexible and reliable level of operation. - more info. on this story

The Port of Tyne, voted European Port of the Year 2007, has recently taken delivery of Wavestore Rock digital recording systems to help secure over 20 miles of quayside infrastructure.

Pelco have announced a collaboration with software developer SmartConnect, to introduce a new management platform that allows their Endura enterprise class IP based video security system, to operate with the CasinoVision™ application, designed as a loss prevention tool for casino operators.

Specialist thermal imaging camera manufacturer FLIR Systems, have entered into an agreement to acquire a controlling interest in french Infra Red camera manufacturer Cedip Infrared Systems. s

 

FLIR Systems Inc. a specialist manufacturer of Thermal Imaging cameras, have entered into an agreement to acquire a controlling interest in french camera company Cedip Infrared Systems. FLIR will be buying 67.8% of Cedip's share capital at an agreed price of € 41.4 million ( $ 57.1 million £ 29.6 million ).

DVTel have just been awarded a prestigious contract to supply their Latitude Network Video Management System (NVMS) to one of India's largest transportation authorities. This new project reflects the company's continued growth in operations, with additional technical staff, a Business Development Manager and a Regional Sales Manager all having been recently appointed. Eli Gorovici, President and CEO said "We see our presence in India as strategically one of the most important in the world right now. The Indian market is growing explosively and given their commitment to technological excellence, this is exactly where DVTel wants to be".
The company have also announced the release of Latitude NVMS V5, which is a fully scalable open standard, enterprise level multimedia management system component, for their unified Security Operations Centre (iSOC), -
