IFSEC 2008 - Apprentice Installers to be challenged at IFSEC 2008

IFSEC 2008 12-15 May 2008 - Birmingham NEC, UK

Press Release - London, 10th March 2008.

Apprentice installers will have the opportunity to pit their skills against each other in return for fantastic prizes and industry acclaim at IFSEC 2008, the world’s leading annual security event. The Apprentice Skills Challenge, in association with Skills for Security, SSAIB and the NSI, will require participants to carry out a fault-finding exercise prior to re-commissioning an existing system in line with EN standards.

In keeping with the changing landscape of security, the challenge has once again evolved for 2008, with the task requiring critical assessment, as well as installation skills. As in previous years, points will be allocated against the various disciplines, taking into account the different skills required. The team with the most points wins the challenge.

The contest has attracted huge interest from leading national companies in the security systems sector. Employers have recognised the importance of having their apprentices showcased at IFSEC where they have the opportunity to excel amongst their peers, and put their training into practice in public.

John Stanton at Skills for Security said: “Apprentice installers are the future of this industry and we should do everything possible to encourage them to uphold professional standards. The standard of entry at last year’s event was incredible and we are looking forward to seeing more of the same this year.”

IFSEC 2008 adjoins The Facilities Show and Safety & Health Expo at the NEC, Birmingham, taking place from 12/13-15 May 2008. Entry is free if you register in advance at www.ifsec.co.uk, where the latest event information, news and seminar timetables are also available.

Apprentices interested in taking part in this year’s Apprentice Skills Challenge should contact John Stanton at Skills for Security on +44 (0) 8450 750111. Companies interested in exhibiting at IFSEC 2008 should contact Charlie Cracknell on ccracknell[at]cmpi.biz.

IFSEC 2008 Charity of the Year

CMP Information, the organiser of IFSEC, has nominated Hear4U as its Charity of the Year for 2008.

Hear4U is a service developed by The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals in conjunction with FirstAssist specifically for individuals working in the security profession, providing them with medical and health-related guidance and support. The objective is to enable those employees who may have been injured at work or are suffering from ill-health to return to gainful employment as soon as possible. It’s a ‘safety net’ for the most vulnerable individuals working in the security sector, in particular front line officers.

During the past 12 months, members of Hear4U’s Support Team have counselled those distressed by bereavement, and offered comfort to industry employees who have fallen on hard times in addition to swift medical assistance in instances where waiting on the NHS may have jeopardised an individual’s employment.

For further information log on to www.hear4u.org.uk.

If you wish to make a donation to the charity, cheques should be made payable to ‘The Company of Security Professionals Charitable Trust’ and forwarded to: c/o SSR Personnel Services, 5 Blackhorse Lane, London E17 6DN
